There has been a lot of discussion over the past week on the clarity of guidance provided by the government on how ‘lockdown’ is to be eased. It’s not for me to comment on the clarity of the guidance or the interpretation thereof, but it has made me grateful for simple and clear guidance provided in God’s word, the Bible.
One particular passage that comes to mind is John 14 v. 6. In which Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through Me.” In this instance, the Lord Jesus is speaking with His disciples and providing reassurance to them during a period of uncertainty. For ease of reading I have broken the verse down below;
I am the way – Jesus is the only means of salvation from the consequences of our sin. By His obedience in death, and His subsequent resurrection on the third day, there is a sure hope for all mankind of salvation from the consequences of sin.
The truth – In many ways the world 2000 years ago was as confusing as it is today; various opinions and offerings on what might be the right way to navigate life. The claim made by the Lord Jesus is a bold one, but one which is substantiated by the many miracles He performed, ancient prophecies fulfilled and the wisdom of His teaching.
The life – Since Jesus, as part of the Godhead, is the creator He can lay claim to giving life. More so than that, He offers eternal life. John 3 v. 16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Whilst guidance on this earth can be unclear and subject to interpretation in many instances; I implore you to turn to Jesus who offers unwavering security, surety and salvation.
